Airport to Negombo

Arrive in Sri Lanka you will be welcomed by a representative & handed over to your respective guide and proceed to Negombo. Negombo situated by the shores of a lagoon by the same name once has been a trading port for Portuguese and Dutch and is an ideal place for those who want quick access to and from the airport. Attractions in the city are the old Dutch fort gate built in 1672 now a part of the prison, the Dutch Canal which was then a supply route to the Dutch administration, old churches and fishing villagers. The 100km long canal running through the town is still being used and is an attraction for those who want to see the country from a different perspective.

Negombo to Sigiriya

Early breakfast, and proceed to Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, Where an orphanage was started in 1975 to house the abandoned and the wounded elephants. The number of elephants has increased to more than 80 now; including Baby Elephants brought from various parts, as well as some of the more than 25 babies born, as a result of the captive breeding programme. The best time to visit is the feeding time from 0900-1000 hrs and 1300-1400 hrs and the bathing time from 1000-1030 hrs and 1400-1430 hrs when all the elephants are taken to the river close by. Early lunch in Pinnawela and proceed to Dambulla.

Visit Golden Rock Cave Temple,

Dambulla Cave Temple first came to use as a refuge for King Valagambahu in 1st century BC. Concealed by the local monks upon returning from exile to his throne at Anuradhapura he had the magnificent cave temple built for them. The cave temple consists of a complex of Buddhist image houses. Its rock ceiling is one large sweep of colourful frescoes, some of which dates back to over 2,000 years, which depicts Buddhist mythology, and the tales of the Buddha’s previous births. This cave temple has the largest number of Buddha statues all housed in one place, including a 14 meter long, colossal figure of the recumbent Buddha carved out of the rock.

Sigiriya to Kandy

Early breakfast, and climb Sigiriya (Kassiapper) Lion Rock, Sigiriya Rock Fortress is home to the 5th Century “Fortress in the Sky” which is perhaps the most fantastic single wonder of the Island. It is also known as Lion Rock because of the huge lion that used to stand at the entrance to the fortress. Within its triple- moated defence the huge rock rises almost to a sheer height of 500ft. On its summit are the foundations of what was once a great and sumptuous palace and gardens complete with swimming pool. On one of the stairways the only known ancient work of Sinhala secular painting survived in the form of Frescoes of life sized damsels in all the freshness and delicacy of their original colour. Proceed to Kandy

Visit a Spice Garden, Sri Lanka has long been renowned for its spices, and the best known is Cinnamon. During 15th Centuries, Spice and ivory traders from all over the world reached this Island with theirnative cuisines to the Island resulting in rich diversity of cooking styles. Reach to the last Kingdom of Kandy, and do a city tour including a visit to a Gem Museum and Lapidary. Evening Cultural Show, with traditional drummers and be mesmerized viewing the many different arts forms from the up country and low country of the Island. Spectacular fire dancers and other folklore, Demon dancers, Traditional Kandyan dancers are a definite breathtaking experience.

Evening visit to UNESCO protected The Temple of the Tooth relic, its located in the Royal Palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy.

Kandy to Nuwara Eliya

Morning visit to Royal Botanical Garden, Peradeniya is situated about 5.5 km to the west from the city of Kandy. Renowned for its collection of a variety of Orchids, and it includes more than 4000 species of plants including Orchids, Spices, Medical Plans and Palm trees.

Move on the Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka’s Hill station. En route stop at a Tea Factory and Tea Garden, and enjoy Lunch too. Stop over at Ramboda Falls, city tour and walk around the little town and the lake.
